The
Terra Nova was originally a colonial mansion built in 1924 on 10
acres of land by Mr. Harold Alexander as a wedding gift to his wife.
After changing ownership twice, it was officially opened as a restaurant
and hotel in 1959. The gracefully balustraded Terra Nova Hotel presently
stands proudly on 2 1/2 acres of tropically landscaped grounds with
the famous Blue Mountains as a backdrop.
Facilities
Our
mid-town location is conveniently close to the major business district
of New Kingston but still offers the seclusion and quiet elegance
needed to "recharge" during a busy schedule, along with the very
personalised service and excellent food for which we are so well
known.
The
35 guest rooms are divided into 3 wings which are 2 stories high.
The
Terra Nova Hotel features one main dining room - the 'El Dorado
Restaurant' - which offers an international cuisine and which has
traditionally been favoured for lunch and dinner by business executives,
and 'The Coffee Terrace' which offers casual dining throughout the
day.
In
addition, there are 7 private dining and conference rooms which
range in size from 140 square feet to 2,200 square feet to accommodate
capacities of 6 to 200 persons. Also, the extensive manicured lawns
and tropical gardens provide an ideal setting for large weddings
and cocktail receptions. The facilities are extremely popular and
are well patronised by Jamaican business people "in the know".
Our
banqueting staff has continued the tradition of excellence and professional
service which have been the trademark of Terra Nova Hotel for over
35 years. A welcoming smile, a personal greeting and impeccable
service are the constant indicators of the unique Terra Nova touch
and the insurance for successful meetings and banquets.
A
PROFILE OF OUR BANQUETING FACILITIES
Regency
Room
The original "Great House" dining room, the Regency Room has been
extended to accommodate a maximum of 75 persons for dining and 10k0
persons for theatre-style conferences. It is particularly suitable
for small display areas to launch new products, etc., as well as
for A.G.M.s and medium-sized breakfasts, lunches and dinners. It
is situated on the ground floor of the main lobby area and is the
most accessible of our private function rooms.
Terra
Nova Suite
This room situated on the first floor, will accommodate up to 60
persons theatre-style or 40 for meal service. The Terra Nova Suite
opens onto its own private balcony, making it suitable for small
cocktail receptions and pre-dinner drinks.
Executive
Suite
This is the "most private" of our banquet facilities and will accommodate
up to 30 persons for seminars or dining. Like the Terra Nova Suite,
this room opens onto a private terrace, which will accommodate up
to 60 persons for cocktail parties.
Board
Room - Blue room - Directors Suite
These rooms are primarily designed to accommodate small board meetings.
The solid mahogany tables are worthy of note. They are also available
for lunch and dinner parties for 6-14 persons.
Club
Room
An "all-time favourite" with our clientele, this room is suitable
for meetings, lunches and dinners for up to 25 persons.
El
Dorado Restaurant
For larger groups, the hotel's "El Dorado" restaurant is available
for meetings and dining for 85-200 persons.
Starlight
Roof Terrace
Cocktail receptions for up to 200 persons may be accommodated on
the hotel's "Starlight roof Terrace."
Poolside
Lawns
Many glittering receptions of up to 800 persons, with the Military
Band in attendance, have been successfully hosted on the hotel's
poolside lawns.
Conference
Room Services
Rental of Audio-Visual equipment can be arranged with our banqueting
office. Flip charts, markers, pencils and writing paper are available
from the hotel on request.
