Welcome to the Home Page for the book The Jamaica Directory of Personalities .

This is the sixth edition of The Jamaica Directory of Personalities contains over 1,200 entries. The listings embrace Jamaican nationals and residents, as well as persons who are of other nationalities who are here temporarily but who are intricately caught up in the framework of the different aspects of Jamaican national life.

People from different walks of life are included - operators of small businesses, scholars of distinction, company executives, public servants, teachers, doctors, engineers, lawyers, accountants, priests, diplomats, artists, writers, musicians, politicians, welfare workers, sportsmen, among others.

The listings are arranged alphabetically and the information given ranges from birth and parentage through education, career and present positions to honours and awards, family details, leisure interests and addresses. In addition, a brief overview of the country and its economy is given.

The personalities included in this publication were invited on the basis of their prominence in different areas of Jamaican life and activities. Their biographical details have been compiled largely from the information supplied in response to our questionnaires. Not every detail has been covered nor has everyone responded. Indeed, some outstanding persons have been omitted in accordance with their wishes. The sample is, however, representative.

We wish to thank all the persons who responded to our letters and our many contributors who have waited very patiently for this volume to appear. Thanks go also to the advertisers for their continued support; to Miss Val Llewellyn, Manager, who was largely responsible for collecting, collating and editing the material, and to all others who helped to make this a reality.

The Jamaica Directory of Personalities is obligatory reading for any person or organisation anywhere interested in finding out information about significant persons in Jamaica today. It will continue to be an invaluable reference book to all librarians, organisations and persons of importance in Jamaica.
